Since making the effort to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle I've made a few swaps here and there to less wasteful alternatives. Some of the swaps aren't for everyone, like reusable toilet paper or reusable period products. But there are some changes that everyone can do that won't change your day to day life and will actually save a few bucks too!
So first let's talk about Cotton Rounds. We use cotton rounds for so much. Taking off makeup, applying skincare, removing nail polish. But we don't have to use disposable ones. Cotton rounds made of cotton fabric can get the job done perfectly! When you are done taking off your makeup or applying your toner you just wash out the cloth and lay it out to dry.
For nail polish you can use felt cloth. The roughness of the the felt cuts right thru the nail polish and removes it likes it's nothing, plus it sucks in the polish so it doesn't get everywhere as you remove it. It holds up really well to the acetone and washes right out.
You can diy them super easily. All you need is a sheet of felt from the craft store and some scissors. Felt sheets are typically less than a dollar and you get a ton of nail polish remover cloths from them. I like to cut mine into 1.5x1.5in squares. I like squares because you can use the edges to get into the corners and get out the stubborn spots.
Something else that I think it an easy change is grocery bags. The reusable ones hold up so much better than the plastic ones that keep getting thinner and thinner. Plus the cloth grocery bags look super cute!
You can also make the change to crocheted bags for produce. Those little plastic bags make your food sweat and over all isn't good for them or the planet. Crocheted bags let your produce breathe and any water produce won't be setting in a puddle of water.
Something I've loved has been switching to dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. They come in a variety of options. From plastic ones to wool ones to knitted cotton. You can put essential oils or fragrance oils on them if you still want a smell like dryer sheets give. I mean think of how many of those you use.
A swap I made recently is silicone baking mats. I feel so late to the game. Tons of people have been using them for years but I've only just switched from parchment paper. It's so great! I don't know about you guys but I go thru so much parchment/baking paper. I use it 95% of the time when I cook. The mats have been a game changer.
The last thing I want to mention is switching to digital music, entertainment and books. That being said I still love books but try to buy second hand and I am getting into vinyl so I'm not keeping to this one entirely myself. I haven't bought a dvd in like 5 years tho.
I've been making these swaps over the last year in an effort to live a little more eco-friendly and have been having a lot of fun with it actually. What "zero waste" swaps have you made? Let me know in the comments.
Thank you so much for stopping by my piece of the internet! Please leave a like if you enjoyed the post. It's much appreciated!!
