Sesame & Honey Chicken Broccoli/Veggie Stir-fry | Recipe | Gluten & Dairy Free!

Since being diagnosed with celiac disease in December last year I've had a huge craving for Chinese takeout. Most oriental food places use Kikkoman, which has wheat in it. A lot of brands of soy sauce do. I use La Choy that is gluten-free.

One of my favourites take away dishes has always been Chicken and Broccoli. So a few weeks ago I'd had enough of my craving and set out to quench it. I started searching Pinterest and I found a few recipes but nothing I was 100% into. So I decided to mix a few recipes together and add my own bits as well.

The most popular ingredients were unsurprisingly soy sauce, sesame seed oil, and ginger. Those 3 are probably in almost every Chinese dish you've ever eaten. That's what brings that classic Chinese takeout flavour we all know and love.

HOW TO MAKE SESAME & HONEY CHICKEN BROCCOLI/VEGGIES STIR-FRY

I start by prepping all the ingredients first. I mince the garlic, chop the onion, cut up the chicken, broccoli & veggies.

Fun fact if you crush the garlic when you hit it to get the skin off then put a little bit of water on the coves before mince it, it will stick together and will be easier to mince!

Then mix together the soy sauce, sesame seed oil, honey, cornstarch, and ginger in a medium mixing bowl.

Pour olive oil into a large saucepan or wok and heat it over medium heat. Then cook your chicken until it is a light golden colour.

Toss in your garlic, onion, and the broccoli/veggies. sprinkle in some black pepper to taste.

Saute for 5 minutes then add the water and cover to let the veggies steam. Steam for 8-10 minutes or until veggies reach desired tenderness. You may have to add a little more water if you steam longer.

Reduce heat to medium-low and pour in the sauce. Toss everything until coated.

Heat for another 5 minutes to let the sauce thicken. Don't heat for longer than 8 minutes. The sauce can start to taste burnt and get clumpy.

Serve immediately. Alone or with your favourite rice. Jasmine is what I always serve mine with.
