The Artist Tag

It has been aggges since I have written a post about Art. I've shared my art story, shared my favourite art supplies, did an Art A-Z post, and now I want to do The Artist Tag to share more about my art style and preferences. I searched online but I couldn't really find a cohesive artist tag. So I wrote one. Pretty standard around here. And also pretty standard of me, I went above and beyond and wrote 25 questions.

It would be a lot more but I started writing This or That questions and started to get on a roll and decided to make an Artist Edition of This or That. It will be out in a little while. Right now let's get into this Artist Tag! Questions as always will be in a list at the bottom if you'd like to do this tag. Tag me or Twitter ZombieGoddessxi so I can give it a read.

1. When did you first start drawing?

I think I was about 5 or 6. I remember sitting at my Aunt's table around 7 and drawing a detailed photo of our house. My grandma showed me how to do a perspective where you could also see the side of the house so it isn't a flat image.

Really I've been doing crafts since I could grasp the concept of putting paint on something. My Mom always had crafts for us to do. The drawing probably started around the time that I could hold a pencil properly.

2. What inspired you to become a full-time/more serious artist?

I always loved art but I stopped for a while. Then I found the Artist community online. I saw all these lovely artist sharing their art and making adorable stickers and prints. I wanted to give it a try.

3. What is your favourite way to make art?

Depends on the art. I love doing abstract stuff with acrylics. When it comes to more detailed stuff I have really been enjoying Procreate on my iPad recently. The ease of erasing with a tap of the screen is really great. Just remember to start new layers!

4. What is your favourite art style?

I really like to illustrate. I really like black line art with watercolours. I have dabbled with realism but I really love illustration.

5. What is your favourite medium?

When it comes to traditional I really love Acrylics and Watercolors. With Digital I really love realistic brushes. The ones that mimic paint and such.

6. What is your favourite thing about making art?

The serotonin! When a piece goes the way I want it just makes me so happy!

7. What is your least favourite thing about making art?

I've a lefty. So I get so much graphite, paint, ink, all the art supplies on my hand and arms.

6. Traditional or Digital?

I love painting and sketching but I love the limitlessness of digital. The ease of erasing a mistake line. I use digital a whole lot but I will say sometimes nothing can be the tactile experience of painting.

7. Realism or Illustration?

I almost exclusively do illustration. I love it! I also love doing a doodle style.

8. Characters or Objects?

Definitely objects. Hands are hard.

9. Colour or Grayscale?

Almost all of my pieces are colourful. Tho I love doing black lineart doodles.

10. What is your favourite thing to draw?/What do you draw the most?

Crystals, moons and witchy things!

11. Which hand do your draw with?

Left. yay smears.

12. What is a habit you have while drawing?

I tend to hold whatever I'm drawing on on my lap and bending over it. It kills my neck and my back but I do it automatically. I need to try and train myself out of it.

13. Do you play things in the background while you draw?

Always. My tinnitus gets so load when the room is quiet. I'll play music, podcasts, YouTube. Just about anything. Although I do prefer music or rewatching something I've seen a lot because I tend to zone out when I create so I don't want to play something new and have to rewind all the time.

14. Do you have a favourite colour/colour palette you use when you make art?

Right now I'm really loving navy blue, teal, seafoam green and colours like that.

15. What do you have a hard time drawing?

Hands, shoulders, characters and people in general really.

16. What do you do for art block?

I look at the art prompt subreddit or scroll on Instagram or Pinterest. I also have an art prompts sketchbook I want to start using it.

17. Where do you start with a new piece?

Sometimes an idea just pops into my head and I dive right in. I typically do a rough sketch and try to get the plan down. Sometimes I scribble a concept on my phone notes as I'm about to fall asleep. A few pieces I've started with the background and work up. Sometimes I approach digital art like painting. Sometimes I just love a colour palette and create a piece to go with that.

18. How long do you usually spend on a piece?

Usually 1-3 hours over a few days.

19. What time of day are you more creative?

Nighttime! I'm currently writing this at 11:45pm.

20. Are you self taught or did you go to classes/art school?

Self taught. Though I do find art classes interesting. I would like to do a course one day.

21. What are your favourite art supplies?

I did a whole post on this. But I've gotten some new products since then so I'll list a few faves. Procreate, Liquitex Acrylic Paints, Prismacolor Wax Coloured Pencils, Sakura Fine liners.

22. Who is your favourite artist(s)?

Old School: Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Claude Monet

Current: Jemma (Dorkface), Chloe Rose, Lex (MadeYewLook), Rin (DrawingWiffWaffles), Rae (Rae Dizzle)

23. Who/what are your biggest influences/inspirations?

All of the lovely ladies above inspire me to share my art and have fun creating.

24. What are your art goals?

Find my style - I'm still too "regular"

Do/Finish an Art Month Challenge

Start everyday with a sketch while I have my coffee

Stop worrying about "ruining" a sketchbook - I'm getting a few bit too many

Start my shop up selling my art - I want to make stickers and prints and hopefully pins

25. What is your favourite piece(s) of your's?

I have 2 I want to share today. The Witch Hand they became a part of my branding and the Covid inspired Plague Mask with and without text.

That was so fun! I love doing tags. If you are an artist feel free to do the tag and leave a link in the comments!
