Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks | Review + Swatches

Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks

"The pigment load in Vice Lipstick is insane! Just one swipe provides an unbelievable laydown of colour. And every shade applies smoothly (without dragging or skipping), hugs lips, and feels amazing! Our proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ gives the formula its super-creamy texture, rich payout and superior colour dispersion."

-Snippet from Urban Decay's Product Description

So Urban promised that these lipsticks will have great pigment, a super-creamy smooth texture.

The creamy formula is also "loaded with nourishing ingredients. A yummy butter blend comforts, hydrates and enhances, leaving lips soft and conditioned, never dry. Aloe Vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils nourish and soften lips. illipe butter (derived from Malaysian illipe trees) provides long-lasting moisture. And Vitamin C and vitamin E provide a hit of antioxidants."

There are 101 shades and 6 finishes. The shades range from pinks to nudes to reds to dark berries and everything in between.

The 6 finishes are Mega Matte: super-intense matte, Comfort Matte: our creamiest matte, Cream: the original, creamy, badass luxury, Metallized: cream with a high level of pearl, Sheer: a punch of colour with a sheer, shiny finish, and Sheer Shimmer: slightly transparent finish with floating pearl and a smooth texture.

Today I will only be reviewing the Mega Matte, Comfort Matte and Cream. I prefer Matte so I doubt I'll ever get the Metallized, Sheer or Sheer Shimmer.

Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks are available for $17 each in the US at Ulta, and Sephora. If you are in the UK they are available for £15.50 at Debenhams. You can also find them for $17 on urbandecay.com or find a store near you on UD's Store Locator.

Here is my experience with the Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks.

I have 3 shades, 2 of which were in the original revolution lines and 1 that is new to the Vice line. I have F-bomb, a classic red in the cream finish, Bad Blood, a blood-red with berry undertones in the comfort matte finish and 714, a bright classic red in the mega matte finish.

As you can see in the photos I got F-Bomb and Bad Blood before the new Vice design, back when they were called Revolution lipsticks. I loved the OG packaging but I like the new packaging too! It's easier to open, the OG felt almost vacuum sealed.

I liked the OG packaging because the original formula, the cream was silver and the matte was black. But I still like the new packaging.

Now while the packaging got a revamp the formula and colours stayed the same. Plus they added a ton of new colours! Which is why I included F-Bomb and Bad Blood. They are still available and in the same formulas. So they still swatch the same even if they are in the old packaging.

SWATCHES

Speaking off swatches. Here are the swatches with light from a window and no flash (From Left to Right: 714 - mega matte, Bad Blood - comfort matte, F-Bomb - cream):

And here they are with the window and flash:

These swatches really show the differences in the finishes so let's review by the finish. Let's start with mega matte because it's my favourite.

MEGA MATTE

If you have been to this blog before you probably know I'm obsessed with lippies and love for my makeup to be matte. I love true matte lipsticks! So many matte lipsticks have a slight creamy look to them because the company is trying to make sure it doesn't dry out your lips.

Which is great but it can make the "matte" lipstick too creamy and can end up giving it a shine. Defeating its matte purpose. So I love when a matte lipstick is actually matte!

I love the shade 714 so much! It's the shade Ruby Rose is wearing in all the adverts. It is such a pretty bright classic red!

The formula wears well. It isn't really drying and wore nicely for the 6 hours I had it on. It doesn't flake or blot and didn't really fade. My lips didn't feel dry and I loved the way it looked! It was matte without looking dry.

COMFORT MATTE

I got this one as soon as it was out. UD finally dropped a matte version of the Revolution lipsticks and I was in! I was immediately drawn to Bad Blood! It was such a pretty red that also looked berry. I was dying for it!

It is a little creamer that the mega matte as it is designed to feel more moisturizing to the lips. As you can see in the swatch photos, this causes it to have a very minimal shine. You can get rid of it by doing the tissue test to get rid of excess lipstick. I do this anyway so it wasn't an issue for me.

It wears nicely on the lips and didn't flake or blot. I wore it for about 4-6 hours and it stayed well. I adore the Bad Blood shade. When they launched the Matte Revolution lipsticks I think they launched 6 shades but I think there are a ton more now!

CREAM

Since I'm a matte girl you can probably tell cream is my least favourite. I actually got this in a set with the UD 24/7 lip liner in 69. I got both products in full size for $24! At the time the lipstick was $22, it got a price drop with the revamp, and the liner still is $20. So both for $24 was insane!

Since the set was insane and there was a classic red option I got it. I love the liner! And I love the colour of the lipstick so I figured I could do the tissue trick and it would at least be a little matter. It worked for the most part so I was happy.

The formula really is cream. It's almost like butter. I really like it. It wears well. I will tell you the shade F-Bomb stains your lips. My arm still has a faint stain from where I swatched it this morning. Bad Bloodstained a little too but you can barely see it. You have to be looking for it to see it really. 714 had no problem.

As this is a cream I haven't really worn it anywhere yet so I can't really talk about it's staying power but it feels great on the lips!

Was it worth the hype? There was a little bit of hype around them and then when they got revamped they were everywhere! I have to say I really love them and I will be buying more.

Was it worth the price? I think so. They are only $17 now and they are really amazing quality lipsticks!

I love these lipsticks! I love that there is a huge colour range and that there are 6 finishes. I adore mega matte of course! I'm so excited to u have ch a huge range of Cruelty-free lipsticks to choose from! I'll probably be able to dupe and non CF lipstick I find! I can't wait to try more shades!

That's it for this review. Thanks so much for giving it a read! I hope you enjoyed it! Have you tried the Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks? What did you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
